Toews has a connection to the Oilers front office in Duncan Keith who recently retired and re-joined the organization, in a player development role. The former Stanley Cup winner would provide the Oilers with significant middle-six depth, which they're currently lacking.
While Keith and Holland may be eyeing Toews, it may take more than the usual gesture of assets to acquire the vet as Kyle Davidson had another viewpoint:
With Luke Richardson and Kyle Davidson at the helm, things are changing fast in the organization, and Richardson despite the rebuild is all about winning.
Another setback for Chicago would be the fact that Toews has a no-move clause in his contract, so before Holland does make an offering, Toews will have the choice to nix it.
In addition, to lend credibility to this idea, Elliot Friedman mentioned the Oilers being a landing spot for Toews:
Should this blockbuster trade even occur, the price for Toews will be high, probably two 2nd rounders? Until then, we'll have to see what way Davidson moves.
