The Calgary Flames have been one of the surprise teams of the NHL thus far in 2024/25, as the end of January is approaching and the team find themselves in a Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
A lot of that can be attributed to Jonathan Huberdeau and Nazem Kadri, but it's the youth that's driving the success of this team, with players like Dustin Wolf, Matt Coronato and Connor Zary taking huge leaps this season.
Unfortunately, one player that hasn't excelled given the opportunity has been Walker Duehr, who has found a role on the fourth-line, but on Tuesday, the team announced they have officially placed him on waivers.
In 16 games this season, the undrafted winger has tallied just one assist, and with the team needing more from their fourth-line, it's easy to see why this decision was made.
With Zary potentially coming back in the next few weeks as well as the likes of Dryden Hunt and William Stromgren playing well at the AHL level.
This move was a long-time coming, with the Flames looking to find some spark up front as they continue their playoff push.
At 27-years of age, Duehr has now played in 84 NHL games for the Flames, tallying 9 goals and 19 points in that time, and while he's got the speed to be a difference maker, he just hasn't recaptured the form of 2022/23 that saw him put up 11 points in 27 games.
Unless he's claimed, this could be the end of his NHL journey for quite some time.
