Over the weekend, Connor McDavid got himself in trouble in the dying seconds of the Oilers game against the Vancouver Canucks in what turned out to be a 3-2 loss for the club.
The Oilers captain got into a grappling match with Canucks forward Connor Garland, ultimately resulting in a game misconduct and eventually, a three-game suspension for cross-checking.
In response, the Oilers have issued a statement firing back at the league, expressing disappointment in the decision.
The team emphasized frustration among the fanbase for the decision as many felt it was a bit too harsh.
However, fan response to the Oilers statement has been more or less the opposite with many chirping them for it.
One fan went so far as to call the team crybabies.
This response from the team echoes what Leon Draisaitl said earlier today as he defended McDavid.
That being said, Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers received a matching three-game suspension for a similar cross-check on Oilers defenseman Even Bouchard.
At the very least, the NHL is being consistent in this case. Far too often consistency has been lacking from the Department of Player Safety.
It appears as though neither McDavid nor Myers will appeal their suspensions though so the Oilers will get McDavid back next Monday when they host the Kraken.
Vancouver will get Myers back on Monday as well when they visit the St. Louis Blues.
