The 2021-22 NHL season has not been a kind one if you're a part of the Arizona Coyotes franchise. Whether it's off-ice issues like not being able to pay your rent last year or having to move to a new 5,000 seat capacity area next year and being a basement dweller in the National Hockey League, wins for thr Yotes have been very few and far between.
Today, however, there was cause for celebration! Not only did the Arizona Coyotes pull off a huge win over the Ottawa Senators at home, but center Nick Schmaltz also set a franchise record for most points in a single game. The 26-year-old recorded 7 points in the contest.
With Arizona, Schmaltz has 12 goals and 14 assists for 26 points in 35 games this year. Initially drafted by Chicago with the 20th overall pick in the 2014 NHL entry draft, Schmaltz has 141 points in 336 games in the NHL split between the Blackhawks and Coyotes.
Congrats to Schmaltz and the Yotes.
