Earlier this summer the Boston Bruins and general manager Don Sweeney traded Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators. The move was intended to create cap space for goaltender of the future Jeremy Swayman. After 2 years of playing in a tandem, the Bruins finally made the decision of which goaltender they intended to go with.
Now fast forward over a month and the Bruins and Swayman still remain without a deal signed. So what's the holdup? The two parties have had ample time to discuss a deal and have previously gone to arbitration with one another. Swayman made it clear he didn't intend to go to arbitration again last summer and confirmed that with his decision this year.
Now with the season set to start in a little over a month he still remains without a deal. Yesterday afternoon Elliotte Friedman provided an update on the negotiations that don't seem positive for Bruins' fans.
Friedman prefaced this comment, by stating it was the last thing he had heard and confirmed he hadn't been reaching out to many sources recently. It does, however, create some concern that the Bruins appear to be heading into the season without their franchise goaltender signed to a contract. When Ullmark was dealt. It felt like a new deal was inevitable, but here we are halfway through August and it seems the two parties are no closer.
