On Sunday afternoon the hockey world lost Murray Costello. Costello was a former NHLer, but was most notably known for being the President of Hockey Canada for two decades.
Costello was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2005 under the builder category. He was also named a Lifetime Member in 2012 before being appointed as an Officer of the order of Canada. Costello was also inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame and IIHF Hall of Fame, before being invested into the Order of Hockey in Canada in 2017.
Before his time as an executive Costello played parts of four seasons Chicago Blackhawks, Boston Bruins and Detroit Red Wings.
Costello was an integral part in the growth of the women's game as he helped organize the first International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Women's Championship in 1990.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Costello Family.
