Free agent Nikita Zadorov banned from returning to his home country
Free agent defenseman Nikita Zadorov opens about about being banned from returning home to Russia as he enters free agency.
Nikita Zadorov is set to enter free agency this summer. The veteran defender will likely be highly coveted and receive multiple offers when the market for his services opens. For some players free agency is about finding your temporary home during the season, but for Zadorov it's so much more.
Since the beginning of the War in Ukraine, Zadorov has been very vocal about not supporting the military operation. Instead Zadorov has openly spoken about his support of Ukraine, he has done so knowing the risks involved with speaking out against the regime. So as Zadorov looks to find a new home he is looking to find somewhere he can call home.
#Canucks defenseman Nikita Zadorov (@zadorov_16) says he is unable to return to his home country of Russia for as long as Vladimir Putin is in power.
Zadorov criticized Vladimir Putin and the war in Ukraine during an interview last summer.
"I'd be in Siberia the next day" Zadorov said last week.
Last season between the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks Zadorov scored 6 goals and added 14 assists on 75 games. Zadorov also added 125 penalty minutes while playing nearly 18 minutes per night. The defender is reportedly looking for a 6 year deal paying him 6 million per season.
