After an unbelievable 36 seasons as a professional hockey player, legend Jaromir Jagr has announced his 37th in 2024-25 will be his last. Jagr had previously said he would only return if the Kladno Knights, the team he owns in the Czech Republic, stayed in the country's top tier league. It did, with a 4-0 sweep over Vsetn in the playoffs.
Jagr told told a news outlet that with that settled, 2024-25 will be his final season as a professional hockey player, and he's already made plans to make sure it's all captured on film for a documentary.
Jagr, 52, recently became the oldest professional hockey player to score a goal, beating out fellow legend Gordie Howe by 52 days.
Jagr list of accolades and records from his time in the NHL is a very long one. It includes being the second highest score ever in the NHL behind only Wayne Gretzky, most career game winning goals (135), most consecutive 30-goal seasons (15), most consecutive seasons with at least 70 points (15), just to name a few. On top of that, he is a two-time Stanley Cup winner, a five-time Art Ross Trophy winner (most points in the league), and a three-time Lester B. Pearson award winner (now known as the Ted Lindsay Award, given to the player voted most valuable to their team by other NHL players).
Jagr's spectacular pro career, inside and outside the NHL, is one for the ages and he will remain a unique and beloved player for a long time. No question a documentary on his last season will get tons of viewers. Let's hope it's released in North America at some point.
