Some sad news is coming out of South Korea today, where 34-year-old goaltender Hyun Ho Hwang has unfortunately passed away at this very young age.

Former South Korean hockey player Hyun Ho Hwang passed away at 34 after collapsing of a heart attack, confirmed by the Korea Ice Hockey Association earlier today.

Hwang, born in 1990, graduated from Yonsei University and began playing hockey with Daemyung Sangmu, playing afterward with HL Anyang. A supporting goalie, Hwang backed up main goalie Matt Dalton.

After much determination, Hwang gained entrance into the country's hockey team, where he displayed a spirit of combat. After retirement, Hwang devoted himself to teaching children players.

Hwang leaves behind wife, Ahn Hee-kyung, and son, Seo-joon. His funeral is occurring in Yonsei University's Funeral Hall of Sinchon, where funeral rites will begin tomorrow at 11:40 a.m. His remains will rest within the Family Park of Incheon.

Hwang had appeared in games for South Korea ranging from 2018-2022, holding a .913 save percentage.

His pro career had seen him playing within HL Anyang (2016-2023, 2013-2014), together with playing within Sangmu (2014-2016), within the Asia League.

Appearing in more than 100 games, Hwang had held a .896 save percentage, together with holding Asia League titles in 2017, 2018, and 2023, within HL Anyang.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish Hwang's entire family and his dearest friends our sincerest condolences during this very difficult and emotional time.
