The Edmonton Oilers are in a tough spot having to either match a pair of offer-sheets, or, let two skilled young players walk to the St. Louis Blues. As such, trade speculation is circling as they definitely have to clear some cap space if they want to match said offer-sheets.
According to Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now and NBCS, the San Jose Sharks appear to be in on defender Cody Ceci, knowing the Oilers are in a rather tough position and their need to clear cap space.
Ceci, 30, played in 79 games for the Oilers last season collecting a total of 25 points including 5 goals and 20 assists.
Peng also mentions that because of the Oilers current position, the Sharks could possibly ask for a draft pick in a trade for Ceci.
If they fail to acquire Cody Ceci, the Sharks plan B appears to be another defender on the trade block from Edmonton, Brett Kulak, although the sense is the Sharks would prefer to nab Ceci if they can.
We'll see where this goes, but expect a trade to be done rather quickly as the Oilers now only have 6 days to match the offer-sheets and limited options.
