According to Rick Dhaliwal, a Canucks reporter, the Canucks will have to do their homework now and over the summer on Pettersson. He also stated that they don't think he'll be traded by the deadline in two weeks, but look out during the summer.
Dhaliwal said Canucks have to do their homework on a Pettersson trade. He doesn't see a trade in next 2 weeks but they have to do their homework (for summer)
Elias Pettersson is 25 years old. He was selected 5th overall in the 2017 draft. Pettersson currently has 29 goals and 45 assists, tallying up to 74 points in 60 games this year.
The «homework» Vancouver has to do is figure out and ask him whether he really wants to be there. What GM Patrick Alvin should also do is go over what a Pettersson less team would look like. Would you keep that momentum or would you be okay without him?
While Alvin may not trade Pettersson right now. They're first in the league and they already threw their ace and traded a first round pick for Elias Lindholm. The Canucks will definitely want to test the market in preparation of a trade if things get to that point.
Either way, if you wait till the summer and he keeps his pace up, he'll carry a higher price tag whether he wants out or you trade him. So why not go for the Cup and wait it out?
