Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson has been handed a multi-game suspension by NHL Player Safety.

One day after announcing an in-person hearing for Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety has announced a suspension.

In a post on social media, the NHL's Department of Player Safety announced that Tom Wilson has been suspended six games for high-sticking Toronto Maple Leafs forward Noah Gregor.

"Washington's Tom Wilson has been suspended for six games for high-sticking Toronto's Noah Gregor." NHL Player Safety said in their post.

The incident occurred during the third period of Wednesday night's game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Washington Capitals. Tom Wilson and Noah Gregor were battling along the boards in Washington's zone and after hitting the Maple Leafs forward, Wilson wildly swings his stick, making contact with his opponent's face.

Wilson was given a four-minute minor on the play for high-sticking, while Noah Gregor, who was in obvious pain on the ice, eventually made his way back to the Toronto Maple Leafs bench.
