Right at the end of the first period, the Thunderbirds Drew Callin caught Hartford's Ryder Korczak with a knee-on-knee hit as Korczak was preparing to cross into the offensive zone. It wasn't just the severity of the hit; it's that Callin very clear extends his leg to make sure Korczak doesn't get by him.
jeez that was a brutal knee... they called it as tripping which is ridiculous pic.twitter.com/lvUyDk0HPA hope (@mikazibanejads) February 24, 2024
The worst part about the whole thing is that Callin was given just a two-minute penalty for tripping on the play. It's the entirely wrong call, and should have been a major penalty. Luckily, Korczak was not injured and was able to remain in the game. The 21-year-old was a third round pick of the New York Rangers in 2021. Callin, 28, was never drafted into the NHL and has spent his entire pro career in the ECHL and AHL.
