It's a scene that has sadly become all too common in Canada's minor hockey system. A game involving 7 and 8 year old players in Hamilton, Ontario was ended by officials recently after a brawl broke out off the ice.
A report from CBC News Hamilton says the fight between parents and a coach broke out at a game in Hamilton on Sunday. It involved the Toronto Stars Black and the Northern Saints Gold of the Klevr Super League (KSL), and took place at Gateway Ice Arena.
The KSL wouldn't comment on what happened to CBC, but released a statement on Instagram saying the behaviour isn't, and won't be tolerated.
The KSL is not sanctioned by Hockey Canada, and was co-founded by former NHLer Kris Versteeg.
Regardless of the league, parents and coaches have to realize the terrible example these kinds of incidents set for the kids. There is very little, if anything, worth getting into a brawl over that happens at a game with 7 and 8 year old players. It's embarrassing, pointless, and only serves to villainize the game to any potential fans and players. There has been no word on any possible charges, or what punishments might be handed out from the league.
