With the NHL preseason officially in full swing, the Boston Bruins are taking on the New York Rangers, prospect Brennan Othmann laid out Parker Wotherspoon.

It may just be just be preseason, but at long last, NHL hockey is back and things are getting quite heated between the Boston Bruins and New York Rangers.

In the latter part of the first period between the two team Othmann hit defender Parker Wotherspoon with a late hit, that most fans have been calling a cheap shot, partly because of how late it was.

As you can see, there is absolutely no arguing how late that hit actually is. Wotherspoon would be able to get up under his own power and attempt to skate the hit off, however, he would end up leaving the game and has not returned.

I think there's two things here, Brennan Othmann is known to be a hard, physical player that loves to throw his weight around, but on the same token, the puck is long gone. At the very least, this play should be an interference penalty.

We'll have to wait a little bit and see if Parker Wotherspoon returns to the game, but as of right now, this is a glaring miss by the officials not even attempting to call a penalty.

Update: Wotherspoon has returned to the ice

Update 2: Wotherspoon and Othmann just dropped the gloves at the end of the second period.
