This feels like it's happening far too often lately. Medical officials stretchered another pro hockey player from the ice today after he suffered a dangerous cut to his leg during a game.

Sebastian Hartmann, who plays for Timra of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) was involved in a game against Vaxjo when he went down along the boards in his own end. While he was still on he knees, Vaxjo's Brian Cooper skated over his leg, leaving a deep cut on his calf. While all online video of the incident is geographically restricted, the following pictures show the extent of the injury.

Timra has provided an update on Hartmann's status, saying he is in good spirits despite what happened. However, he won't play again this season.

"Sebastian Hartmann was accidentally hit on the calf by a skate blade. He is in good spirits and doing well but will require surgery. His rehabilitation extends beyond the remainder of the season."

Cooper, a 30-year-old American player, said after that he felt awful about what happened but glad to hear Hartmann is doing well.

"It was a little bit of a relief. I felt terrible, because you don't want to hurt anyone. But I'm glad he seems to be okay."

There seem to have been more skate cuts than ever in hockey over the past couple of years, and they don't seem to be slowing down despite the addition of cut-resistant clothing and equipment.
