Just one day after it was announced that Torey Krug of the St. Louis Blues would undergo surgery on his ankle that would force him out for all of the 2024-25 season, the defenceman has met with members of the media to answer questions. The 33-year-old became very emotional when talking about what his could mean for his career.
Torey Krug told reporters he suffered the ankle injury while playing with the Boston Bruins in the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs. He said he knew he was going to have to deal with it eventually, but was hoping he could make it to retirement. The pain intensified last season, to the point where it was decided the surgery couldn't wait any longer. Krug said he knows his age is a major factor in whether he will ever be able to get back to the level of player he has been.
Torey Krug did try to look on the bright side of things during his emotional meeting with reporters. He said he's looking forward to being able to carry his kids down the stairs again once his recovery is complete.
Krug still managed to score 4 goals and 39 points in 73 games last year with the St. Louis Blues despite the pain he was playing through. He's been a very consistent points producer on the backend since coming into the league during the 2011-12 season. Hopefully, he can return to the NHL at the level he wants to be at once the ankle surgery has fully healed.
