The Seattle Kraken may be on the verge of making history
The Seattle Kraken may be on the verge of making history with a new coaching hire, with the first full time female assistant coach behind the bench, something that would certainly be groundbreaking if it ends up happening.
With women in hockey, taking major steps in both their own leagues and in the NHL over recent years, it appears that we might be on the verge of seeing more history be made.
According to Chris Johnston of TSN, the Seattle Kraken are considering hiring the first female, full-time assistant coach in NHL history. Jessica Campbell's name has come up With new head coach, Dan Bylsma trying to round out his staff before next season begins.
New #SeaKraken head coach Dan Bylsma tells reporters in Seattle that Jessica Campbell will be considered for a job on his coaching staff.
There's never been a full-time female assistant coach in the NHL before.
I'm sure this will see mixed reviews and Campbell hasn't even gotten the job yet but we've seen more and more that if you have the hockey mind and you're qualified for the job, things will happen for you. It also sends the message that if women want to work and be in the National Hockey League, it's a viable option which I think is pretty amazing considering the fact that the NHL for the longest time has been known as the old boys club.
Campbell, 31, is currently an assistant coach with the Coachella Valley Firebirds as part of Bylsma's staff currently as he tries to win an AHL championship before stepping back into the NHL. There's obviously no shortage of familiarity there and if she's qualified to do the job and she gets it, I would love to see it.
