Three Teams Emerge as Official Contenders to Sign Jonathan Toews This Season; Per Frank Seravalli
Three teams emerged as official contenders to sign Jonathan Toews this season, according to Frank Seravalli.
After winning three Stanley Cups and playing over 1000 games in the NHL, Jonathan Toews stepped away from the ice due to symptoms of long-term Covid in 2023, at the end of his eight-year, $10,500,000 AAV contract he signed in 2014 with the Chicago Blackhawks.
He took some time off, looking at various ways to get back on top and never hid his intentions of making a comeback in the NHL if the circumstances were right.
Back in November, he even traveled to India as a part of his healing journey:
In a recent interview, he opened up about how he hasn't lost the desire to be a part of a team:
"I haven't spoken about this to a lot of people, but it's definitely still in there. I've talked to a lot of the guys that are done, and a lot of them will say that desire to be on the ice competing and to be in the locker room with the guys never goes away. It's just something that you have to accept when your time comes.
So there's that, but at the same time, I think there's a big part of me that really wants to give it my all, to get back on the ice and see where it takes me.
There's a part of me that really doesn't feel like my career is over yet, and who knows what this next part of the journey looks like, as far as getting back on the ice and trying to make a return to the NHL.
There's never any guarantees in life, but I'm going to give it my best shot. I'm going to enjoy every step of the way.

According to Frank Seravalli, Toews is once again training on the ice, and has got back to his usual elite level skating.
Seravalli added that Toews even reached out to some organizations that could be interested in adding depth to their lineup: the Toronto Maple Leafs, Winnipeg Jets, and Colorado Avalanche.
These three teams will look to have a deep playoff run. Toews' experience and natural talent could be very useful for any of these organizations.
We should know what happens to him before the trade deadline, on March 7th.
Stay tuned.
