When the Toronto Maple signed Tyler Bertuzzi to a one year contract last off-season, things initially didn't start off as planned, he struggled through the better part of the first half of the season, leading many to believe the Leafs made a mistake in signing him. However, he became a very important part of the Leafs down the stretch.
It's well known that the Maple Leafs would like to retain Bertuzzi's services if they can, but it looks like he's dream interest in free agency from around the league, particularly from the team that drafted him in the Detroit Red Wings according to The Hockey News and writer Adam Proteau.
Bertuzzi, 29, skated in 80 games for the Leafs last season, scoring 21 goals and adding 22 assists for a total of 43 points.
The Hockey News mentions the Red Wings have a lot of room to work with when it comes to the Salary Cap this off-season which could lead to Bertuzzi's return. Between that and how emotional team captain Dylan Larkin was when Bertuzzi was traded, the fit could be there.
It seems as though quite a few teams are interested in Bertuzzi's services, We'll have to see where this goes.
