Elliotte Friedman revealed the shocking NHL news that James Reimer was claimed off of waivers today by the Buffalo Sabres after he hit waivers on Tuesday after his rough start to his 2024-25 season in the Anaheim Ducks.
Reimer has been underwhelming to this point, having posted only a .884 save percentage and 4.50 GAA in two games, which hasn't helped his cause as John Gibson and Lukas Dostal have outplayed him in net to date.
At 36 years old, Reimer is a seasoned veteran who has taken part in 503 contests in the league, and that experience was enough to make him desirable to teams looking for a reliable backup, which Buffalo pounced on.
Reimer is signed to a manageable one-year, $1 million contract. Reimer is a veteran of 16 NHL seasons, posting a 2.89 goals-against average during his 503 career games with the Toronto Maple Leafs, San Jose Sharks, Florida Panthers Carolina Hurricanes, Detroit Red Wings, and Ducks.
The native of Morweena, Man., was selected by the Leafs in the fourth round of the 2006 NHL Draft. He went on to have several solid seasons with the Leafs before he departed Toronto.
Defenseman Riley Stillman, 26, has seen less than desired action this season, which led to the Hurricanes placing him on waivers. He cleared and will be assigned to the AHL.
