As Maple Leafs fans claim conflict of interest, Sheldon Keefe offers up surprising comment on Wes McCauley
Ahead of game 3 between the Florida Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs, the officials were announced. With Wes McCauley being one of them for the game tonight, it had Leaf fans crying foul before puck drop, given the history between he and Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe.
However, according to Chris Johnston of TSN, Sheldon Keefe had this to say regarding McCauley; take a look:
Sheldon Keefe, asked about his relationship with Wes McCauley: �Officials don't have any impact on the game, and it's not my focus. Wes has treated me like a true professional the whole time that I've been in this league, and I've been very appreciative of that.' <\q>
These comments by Keefe are certainly surprising, but maybe now, leaf fans and the media can stop with this narrative that there's some sort of bias because of something that happened a long time ago.
Is it still a little odd that McCauley is allowed to ref in a game that has Keefe on the bench? Yes. However, it seems like neither of the individuals are bothered by their involvement in hockey games together.
Toronto fans will have to move on to the next excuse, this is officially dispelled as a conspiracy theory
