The Edmonton Oilers and Vegas Golden Knights faced off in a pivotal game 4. The Oilers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and ultimately never relinquished it. As most blowouts in the playoffs do, the game quickly escalated and saw multiple players cross the line. This was headlined by Alex Pietrangelo being ejected for a two-hand slash on Leon Draisaitl.

With less than a minute left in the game, Darnell Nurse had finally had enough. Nurse grabbed hold of Nic Hague and instigated a fight. The two dropped the gloves from one of the best fights of the entire season, but it's what happened after that should have the Oilers concerned.

After the fight the referee, instead of just awarding a major penalty, awarded Nurse with an instigator penalty. So what's the issue? Well the instigator in the final 5 minutes of a game results in a mandatory 1-game suspension.

The NHL Department of Player Safety does have the option to rescind the instigator, but that would be a surprising decision in its own.
