One thing is clear from this year's second round playoff series, the Toronto Maple Leafs best players haven't been their best players. The team finds themselves in a 3-0 series hole and that Core 4 is yet to score a single goal. Even worse during Game 3 the Maple Leafs looked completely disinterested in playing or competing all night.

The Maple Leafs have shown over long stretches that they're able to compete with any team in the league, but mental lapses and slow starts have sunk the team time and time again. Yesterday Mitch Marner was made available to media ahead of tonight's game 4 and instead of owning up to his poor play, or providing a hopeful quote for fans, Marner went in a different direction.

We don't care what you guys say, we don't listen to you guys outside of this locker room. We're just focused on ourselves.

This quote didn't set well with fans who immediately keyed in on the quote and lack of accountability. Marner didn't feel the need to state that the Leafs know they need to be better or even that he wasn't happy with his performance. Instead Marner went with his typical woe is me approach, something he's stuck to his entire career. Fans quickly took note and responded.

Game 4 goes tonight and hopefully Marner can bring at least some level of attention to tonight's game, otherwise he'll have a tee time tomorrow afternoon with friends after the Leafs fizzle out once again.

The real question becomes, if you make it out of the first round and don't win a game in the second, was it really an accomplishment?
