Moments ago, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman released a bombshell trade in the midst of the Stanley Cup Final. Friedman reports a three way trade between the Flyers, Kings, and Blue Jackets involving some formerly promising players in Ivan Provorov and Cal Petersen.
The LA Kings seem to be playing the part of the bankroller in the deal, retaining 30% of Provorov's salary in order to get out of the larger sum of money owed to struggling goaltender Cal Petersen.
With a trade of this magnitude, more details will surely emerge in the coming hours as to the motivations and hockey implications of these trades. On initial reaction, the pay a price to move on from Cal Petersen, the Blue Jackets improve their defence for next season, and the Flyers retain assets and move on from Ivan Provorov.
