With the Dallas Stars losing to the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Final of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Calgary Flames have completed another trade. And it seems the Flames rival, the Oilers, have had a hand in ensuring Calgary gets as little as possible at least twice.
In March of this year, Chris Tanev was traded to the Dallas Stars from the Calgary Flames in a three-team trade that also involved the New Jersey Devils. The return for the Flames included a prospect and a pick, as well as a conditional pick.
It was pointed out by a fan that Edmonton eliminated the Vancouver Canucks in the second round this year, which blocked Calgary once again. Calgary traded Elias Lindholm to Vancouver for a package that included a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. It could have been a third-rounder if Lindholm and the Canucks had reached the conference finals, which Edmonton stopped them from accomplishing.
It should also be noted that Matthew Tkachuk and Sam Bennett have been huge factors in the Florida Panthers making it to the Stanley Cup Final against the Edmonton Oilers, two players that were sent to Florida by the Calgary Flames.
