Calgary Flames trade Andrew Mangiapane for ridiculously low cost
The Calgary Flames are officially in a full rebuild and if that wasn't clear before it's clear now after trading Andrew Mangipane
If it wasn't clear before today, it's officially clear now that the Calgary Flames are about to enter a full rebuilt. After trading star goaltender Jacob Markstrom the team followed that up today by trading forward Andrew Mangiapani.
Elliotte Friedman broke the news on his official X account that Mangiapane is headed to thr Washington Capitals.
Andrew Mangiapane has been traded from Calgary to Washington for a second-round pick in 2025 Mangiapane joins a Capitals team desperate to fix their offense as they attempt to get back into a playoff spot, while also helping Alex Ovechkin break the all-time goal record.
Mangiapane has spent his entire career with the Calgary Flames after being drafted in the sixth round of the 2015 NHL draft. The forward struggled last season as did most of the Flames. Mangiapane played in 75 games and scored 14 goals and added 26 assists.
This trade likely signals a full rebuild for the Flames as they move on from another key member of their core. It will be interesting to see which approach the team takes as it is obvious next season they will be looking to finish near the bottom of the standing.
