After trading Darcy Kuemper to the Los Angeles Kings last week, the Washington Capitals were in desperate need to add some goaltending help and that's exactly what they acquired on Saturday afternoon.
According to TSN's Chris Johnston, the Capitals have acquired goaltender Logan Thompson from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for a third round pick in 2024 and a third round pick in 2025.
Thompson, 27, appeared in 46 games this season with the Golden Knights where he had a record of 25-14-5 along with a 2.70 goals against average, a .908 save percentage and one shutout.
A bit of an awkward moment occurred following the trade. With the Draft being held in Vegas, the NHL and the Golden Knights had Logan Thompson available for an autograph session on Saturday, which was set to occur just half an hour after he was dealt to the Washington Capitals.
This is a great move for the Washington Capitals, adding a goaltender who's in his prime and will play a key role in helping them return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs after a disappointing exit this spring being swept by the New York Rangers.
