The Pittsburgh Penguins had high hopes when they acquired Eric Karlsson this summer from the San Jose Sharks. New general manager Kyle Dubas made the splash in an attempt to prolong his team's Stanley Cup window. Instead, the Penguins find themselves outside of the playoff race and entering an imminent retool.

Over the next two days the Penguins are expected to trade Jake Guentzel and other players. This will signal a shift away from their win now mentality. While it has been rumored that Pittsburgh hopes for a quick turnaround, that is definitely not guaranteed. Especially given the fact that the team will be forced to give up a first round pick over the next two years.

Now according to Nick Kypreos, former NHL player and current NHL insider. It sounds as if Captain Sidney Crosby has suddenly had his name appear in trade rumors. According to reports, Crosby has been linked to the Colorado Avalanche.

Kyper says he's had two calls today from people not in the know, linking Crosby to Colorado.

This connection certainly makes sense given Crosby's relationship with Nathan MacKinnon. The two are considered to be best friends and have both spoken in the past about an interest in playing with one another. Given the Penguins roster, it would make sense that Crosby would like to make one final run at winning a Stanley Cup.

Crosby, 36, has played his entire career in Pittsburgh since being drafted first. Overall by the team. This season Crosby has 32 goals and 31 assists in just 60 games. Well the deal seems unlikely. It has always been reported that Pittsburgh will do what's right by their captain.
