The player in question would be Flyers center Scott Laughton. The 30-year-old is a Swiss army knife type player as he can play anywhere in the lineup and do well, even if he doesn't exceed in any one area.
This season he has 9 goals and 23 points in 43 games, including 2 points short-handed, one area where he can be exceptionally dangerous at times.
As he is on an expiring contract and the Flyers are unlikely to make the playoffs, it does seem likely that he could get moved. The only question is for how much?
According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, Flyers general manager Danny Briere is hoping for a 1st round pick if not more than that, and he is willing to hold out if he needs to.
Friedman pointed out that Briere's strategy has worked as recently as last season when he got a 1st round pick in exchange for defenseman Sean Walker, something many around the hockey world did not think could happen.
Laughton is not the only Flyers forward currently involved in trade speculation.
Earlier this month, Joel Farabee came up in trade rumors after he was made a healthy scratch.
Granted, Farabee has not been at his best this season, but at 24 years old, there may very well still be interest in him from around the league.
The former 1st round pick certainly still has upside and there is a chance he could blossom in a different environment.
Regardless, the Flyers will be a team to watch as potential sellers as the March 7th trade deadline starts to loom closer.
