The Toronto Maple Leafs season has an even been over for 48 hours and the rumor mill is already swirling. With reports that the Maple Leafs will finally break up the Core Four, names are already running rampant. Today NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet has linked the Maple Leafs to Seth Jones of the Chicago Blackhawks.
After signing his max term extension with the Blackhawks, Jones struggled last season before finding his game this year. The real question would remain. Would the Maple Leafs be willing to risk that Jones could remain productive for the remaining 6 years of his deal?
The final 6 years of Jones contract are all at a cap hit of 9.5 million a season. While this would be a savings of approximately a million dollars compared to Mitch Marner's contract, it's a lot of money to commit to what could be a problematic deal long-term.
