Insider names potential teams on Alex DeBrincat's trade list
Alex DeBrincat's time with the Ottawa Senators is coming to a close, as we all know. The 25-year-old is set to become an RFA and doesn't want to sign a long-term extension with the organization. He's also reportedly submitted a list of teams he's willing to be dealt to.
While making an appearance on the NHL Network, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman revealed three teams that could potentially be on Alex DeBrincat's list - the Detroit Red Wings, Florida Panthers and the Vegas Golden Knights.
"I think one of them is Detroit, he's from the area, I don't think that's going to surprise anyone, I think it's possible the two teams in the final could be on his list too." Friedman said.
DeBrincat, a native of Farmington Hills (Michigan) is coming off a pretty strong first season with the Ottawa Senators, but took a slight step back in terms of his point production compared to the 2021-22 season. In 82 games, he put up 66 points (27 goals, 39 assists), 45 penalty minutes and was a minus-31.
There's a good chance Pierre Dorion would like to get this situation resolved pretty quickly and a trade at the upcoming NHL Entry Draft at the end of June is possible, if not sooner. DeBrincat has a $9 million qualifying offer and while Dorion said back in April that he will issue one to the young sniper, it's unclear if that stance has changed in the last couple of weeks.
If the Senators don't issue a qualifying offer to DeBrincat, he'll become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st and there's no way Dorion will want him to walk for free.
