The National Hockey League's salary cap hasn't seen a significant increase in quite a while, partly do to the pandemic. The cap remaining flat has put a lot of teams up against a wall. Making it very hard for teams to keep their players, particularly their stars without handcuffing the rest of their team, but the cap could see a significant rise sooner than we think.

According to Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek of Sportsnet on the 32 Thoughts Podcast, the could raise quite a bit after next season and beyond; take a look.

F: The Hagel deal..

M: is a pretty good indication that the cap is going up

F: They're expecting the cap to go up 4 million next year and 5 million the year after.

If the cap does indeed rise that much, it will give almost every NHL team the room they need to be able to build a more competitive roster, it aslo makes deals like Auston Matthews and the aforementioned Hagel a little bit easier to stomach.

It remains to be seen if the salary cap will go up by 9 million 3 seasons from now, but that could be the reason we're seeing teams lock in players for the term and the amount of money they are.
