NHL Department of Player Safety reaches decision on Brad Marchand's dangerous trip on Timothy Liljegren
Over his career Brad Marchand has developed quite the reputation. Marchand's supplemental discipline history is one of the most extensive resumes in NHL history. With that history comes with every play being examined under a microscope.
Last night in a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Marchand was once again the target of controversy. In the first period while on a race for the puck Marchand became tangled up with Leafs' defender Timothy Liljegren. On the play Marchand's stick gets tied up between Liljegren's legs. On the play it appears that Marchand twists his stick performing a can opener on the defender.
Fans immediately began to petition for a suspension for the Bruins Captain. Fans felt that Marchand deserved a suspension, however it appears the league felt otherwise.
With the time now being after 5 pm Eastern it's clear that the NHL Department of Player Safety will not be issuing Marchand a fine or a hearing for this play. Despite the outcry of Maple Leafs fans, this is likely the right call.
