It's very sad, yet understandable given the circumstances. The Nottingham Panthers, the EIHL team that Adam Johnson was playing for when he tragically passed away, has decided to shut down for the rest of the season.
"The Nottingham Panthers will withdraw from this season's Challenge Cup and take no further part in the competition. We'd like to thank fans again for their support and will provide a fresh update about fixtures in the coming days.
Near the end of last month, Johnson, a former member of the Pittsburgh Penguins, died after receiving a cut to the neck from the skate blade of an opponent. The incident has sparked a police investigation and league's around the world implementing a mandatory neck guard policy.
The Panthers have promised a refund to all season ticket holders in the next two weeks. The entire EIHL shut down following Johnson's death. However, all other teams are now ready to resume the season.
