San Jose Sharks asking price for Timo Meier revealed and it's a lot
With a little over a month until the NHL Trade Deadline, trade chatter is certainly picking up. One of this year's top trade targets, Bo Horvat was moved yesterday in a blockbuster deal.
The San Jose Sharks have an elite winger of their own, in Timo Meier on the market. Insiders are revealing the asking price for the Swiss winger.
"What I'm hearing is a first-rounder -- and one Grade-A or two Grade-B prospects, or one good prospect and a young, established NHL player," a source from outside the Sharks organization told San Jose Hockey Now.
Over the last two campaigns, Meier has scored 63 goals, 14th in the NHL, and racked up 553 shots, second in the league. He is a pending restricted free agent with a $10 million qualifying offer.
The 26-year-old already has 28 goals and 48 points in 51 games. He is on pace to smash his career-high of 35 goals.
Meier also possesses a power game that should translate in the playoffs. In short, the pending RFA is a well-rounded first-line scorer, which is part of the reason why Pierre LeBrun reports that «the ask on a new contract starts with at least a nine.»
Elliotte Friedman reported earlier that if the San Jose Sharks receive a good offer for Meier, they would allow teams to talk to his representation about an extension.
There is only a few true game changers available. If the Sharks are going to move Meier GM Mike Grier and company will need to receive a offer that really knocks their socks off.
