Multiple Teams Have Shown Interest In Vancouver's Bo Horvat
NHL Inside Reporter Elliotte Friedman reports that the Detroit Red Wings, Boston Bruins, Seattle Kraken, and The New York Islanders all have interested in Vancouver's Bo Horvat. Things have take a turn for the worse in Vancouver this year. They have been unable to reach a contract extension with Horvat as well and it is imminent that he will be moved at the deadline. Twenty-seven year old Horvat is in the final year of his contract that pays him $5.5 million per season.
Despite Vancouver's poor play this year, Horvat already has thirty-one goals and twenty three assists so far this season. He's already on track to have the best offensive season in his NHL career. Horvat would be a solid addition to any of the team's top forward groups.
Vancouver is likely listening to all offers on the table and trying to determine what's the best return they can get for their captain. This trade could play out as Horvat being purely a rental for teams like Seattle, Boston, or the Islanders. In the case of the Red Wings they'd likely want to keep him long-term as they won't make the playoffs this season.
The Bruins have multiple unrestricted free agents after this season. If they really wanted to, they could acquire Horvat and be legitimate cup contenders and still sign Horvat after the season is over. They simply couldn't keep all their unrestricted free agents this summer if they did.
Both the Kraken and the Islanders don't have a significant amount of cap space. So unless they moved other players out, keeping Horvat for eight million or more per season could be a real challenge. Regardless look for Horvat to be one of the biggest names in this year's trade deadline talk. Vancouver might even make this deal sooner if the right offer comes their way.
