Times are apparently tough in Russia as a two-time winner of the KHL's Gagarin Cup has been fired by his current team for allegedly stealing equipment.
Bogdan Potekhin, 31, played his entire pro career in the KHL until last season, when he dropped down to the VHL, a lower Russian league. It was announced today that Krasnoyarsk Sokol had dropped him, despite being one of the team's top scorers.
"...the management of the club playing in the All-Russian Hockey League ( VHL ) caught the striker stealing sticks from the team locker room. According to the source, the player was identified after the viewing of recordings from video cameras." - Sport24.ru Potekhin won two Gagarin Cups as a member of Metallurg Magnitogorsk in 2014 and 2016. He was also a member of a team that won the Kharlamov Cup in 2010, Russia's top junior hockey prize. Why he needed the sticks has not been made public.
