Insider reveals the six teams looking at trading for Trevor Zegras
Six landing spots for Trevor Zegras of the Anaheim Ducks have been identified.
Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras has had a tough season with injuries and is out until at least early-March after suffering a broken ankle that required surgery.
In recent weeks, Zegras' name has popped up in trade rumours, especially after the Ducks acquired Cutter Gauthier form the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Jamie Drysdale.
It's unclear if the Ducks will actually move on from Trevor Zegras, but if they do, there will be several teams lining up for the chance to acquire the 22-year-old.
Shayna Goldman of The Athletic was recently tasked with identifying potential landing spots for the Bedford, New York native. Goldman said that the Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers and the Washington Capitals could all be fits for Zegras.
Zegras has two more years on his contract following the 2023-24 season which comes with a cap hit of $5.75 million, which is certainly a reasonable AAV for interested teams. The cost to acquire Zegras won't be cheap and would likely include a package of a young NHL-ready player, a top prospect and first-round pick.
Of the teams Goldman mentioned, three make the most sense - Chicago, Montreal and Philadelphia. The Blackhawks' young core with Connor Bedard, Lukas Reichel, among others would benefit significantly from bringing Zegras into their top-six.
As for Montreal, Zegras is close friends with Cole Caufield and the two have plenty of chemistry from playing together at the World Juniors and with the US National Team Development Program.
The Philadelphia Flyers, much like Chicago and Montreal, are in the midst of a rebuild/retool, whatever you'd like to call it. Zegras' age fits in well their core right now and prospects they have on the way. By the time the Flyers are ready to compete again on a yearly basis for a playoff spot, Zegras should be just entering his prime.
