NHL Department of Player Safety fines Anaheim Ducks player for throwing water bottle at referee
The NHL has made it clear this year that they won't tolerate any abuse of officials. This season the league has fined multiple coaches for the criticism and today the NHL issued a fine after an incident that occurred during the Anaheim Ducks versus Colorado Avalanche game.
After Nathan MacKinnon scored the game winning goal in overtime, a member of the Ducks bench picked up a water bottle and threw it at the officials.
It seems the Ducks were upset about a penalty that was called against Frank Vatrano earlier in overtime. Vatrano received a misconduct penalty at the end of the game. Today the league announced they'd fined Strine $5,000 for his actions.
It's clear the throwing of the water bottle is an act of disrespect, but what was this worthy of a fine?
