Central Division team reportedly interested in signing Matt Dumba
There's no question that Matt Dumba is the best available defenceman on the unrestricted free agent market and it's a little shocking that he wasn't signed on July 1st.
According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Arizona Coyotes have shown interest in signing Dumba to a contract this summer.
"Matt Dumba has not signed yet, I think this could be where he ends up...Arizona has a spot open and I think he's a player they have interest in." Friedman said.
Dumba, a native of Regina, was drafted seventh overall by the Minnesota Wild in 2012 and went on to appear in 598 games for them, putting up 236 points, across parts of ten seasons.
The Coyotes are one of a handful of teams that have plenty of cap space still available. According to CapFriendly, the Coyotes have $16,247,856 in cap space after trading for Sean Durzi, as well as signing Jason Zucker to a one-year deal worth $5.3 million. Arizona also brought back Troy Stecher on a one-year contract after trading him to the Calgary Flames at the deadline in March.
