Less than six months after being eliminated from the Conference Finals against the Stanley Cup champions Florida Panthers and winning the Presidents' Trophy, nothing seems to be working for the Rangers.
The team is currently seventh in the Metropolitan Division, tied with the New York Islanders at 33 points.
Yesterday, the team was in action for the final game before the Holiday break, and Peter Laviolette's team couldn't compete against the division rivals New Jersey Devils, who won 5-0.
As of now, the Rangers seem to be the biggest disappointment in the entire league, and unless they can bounce back soon, will end up getting another high draft pick next summer.
After trading away the former captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks and Kaapo Kakko to the Seattle Kraken in the past two weeks, the team seems poised to make many more changes soon.
In the last game, the veteran Chris Kreider was even healthy scratched from the lineup, leaving many experts to believe a trade would go down soon.
However, head coach Peter Laviolette explained that his decision to scratch him was made because he thought the team would be more successful:
Obviously, that's not what happened.
Unless he gets traded as soon as the NHL roster freeze ends, Kreider should be reinserted in the Rangers' lineup for the team's next game, set to go down next Saturday against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
