The Arizona Coyotes received some bad news on their new arena plans as Tempe voters denied a request to build a new arena complex near Priest Drive and Rio Salado Parkway.

The franchise's future is in a very uncertain place, as the team does not have a place to play once the deal at its temporary home at Arizona State's Mullett Arena expires following the 2024-25 season, with a mutual option for the 2025-26 campaign.

Coyotes highest scorer from last season Clayton Keller couldn't hold back his disappointment posting a sad face emoji on Twitter.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman also shared his heartfelt disappointment over this latest news

«The NHL is terribly disappointed by the results of the public referenda regarding the Coyotes' arena project in Tempe,»
Bettman said in a statement released on Tuesday.
«We are going to review with the Coyotes what the options might be going forward.»

Things got even worse today as Keller's dad tweeted out that his son won't be playing with the Coyotes next season.

Keller's dad Bryan must have some inside information because Clayton is locked up for six more seasons at a cap hit of $7,150,000.

The 24 year old posted career high numbers during the 2022-2023 season, scoring 37 goals and 86 points while playing in all 82 games.

It seems very hard to believe that general manager Bill Armstrong would be willing to part with Arizona's best player who hasn't reached his prime yet and is signed to a very team friendly deal.
