It's been quite the year for Arizona Coyotes defensive prospect Artyom Duda who will now be taking an unusual path in his development.

Earlier this year, Duda committed to playing hockey in the NCAA with the University of Maine, but that's where things take a bit of a turn.

The NCAA declared Duda ineligible to play for Maine because he appeared in 14 games in the KHL last season and after appealing the decision, it was upheld, meaning he needed to find somewhere else to continue his development.

According to Craig Morgan, Duda will be playing with Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.

"Per sources, Coyotes prospect Artyom Duda will play the second half of the collegiate season at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson).

Duda's final appeal to play NCAA hockey at the University of Maine was denied earlier this month."

The 19-year-old was a second-round pick of the Arizona Coyotes in 2022 and had three assists in 14 games for CSKA Moscow last season.

It'll be interesting to see if Duda will try to see if he's allowed to play in the NCAA next season, given that he didn't play a game of professional hockey in 2023-24. If not, the Coyotes may have to sign him and have him play for their American Hockey League affiliate in Tucson.
