The 2024 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship got underway on Tuesday in Gothenburg, Sweden and this year, several of the top draft prospects are participating.

One of those top prospects is Adam Jiricek of Czechia, who played his first game of the tournament earlier today against rivals Slovakia.

Late in the second period while chasing down a puck, Jiricek got tangled up with Slovakia's Juraj Pekarcik and fell to the ice in quite a bit of pain after his knee bent awkwardly.

"Czech D Adam Jiricek gets tangled up and is in some obvious pain. He was eventually able to get off the ice with limited weight being used on his right leg. #WorldJuniors"

Jiricek needed help off the ice and returned to the Czechia bench for the third period, even taking a brief shift early in the final frame.

Czechia would go on to drop their opening game of the 2024 World Juniors by a score of 6-2. They'll be back in action on Wednesday against recently promoted Norway, who are in the top division of the World Juniors for the first time since 2014.
