The Toronto Maple Leafs are at a cross roads, up against the cap, it's been clear for a long time that Willam Nylander's time in Toronto is coming to an end, it's just a matter of time, but it seems the Leafs had a move in place to trade Nylander to a western conference team and he made sure the deal didn't go through.

According to hockey 24/7 on Twitter the Leafs and Arizona Coyotes had a trade in place revolving around Nylander that would've seen Clayton Keller go the other way, but Nylander is unwilling to extend, so the deal ended up failing; take a look.

The

explored a deal involving Nylander and Keller Nylander is unwilling to extend in Arizona as of now.

It seems that Nylander does actually want to be in Toronto, but if the Leafs are actively shopping him like things would indicate, is he now trying to handcuff the organization? That's an argument that could be made as well.

On the other hand, I understand Nylander not wanting to extend in a place like Arizona, but if Clayton Keller was part of the package going the other way, it's no wonder the Leafs tried to make it work.
