This is a sticky situation for the Boston Bruins, and that was clear in how carefully the captain chose his words while talking about it.
Ahead of tonight's game against the Montreal Canadiens, Brad Marchand was asked about the arrest early this morning of teammate Milan Lucic after an alleged domestic incident. Marchand was cautious about offering direct support to Lucic.
"We're obviously aware of what happened last night with Looch. The biggest thing for us is we care a lot about their family. We're a family in here, we're all very, very close. So, we're also very concerned and upset for them and what they're going though. We have a lot of support for Brittany and the kids, and for Looch himself. Because of that, out of respect for them, that's going to be it for now.
Marchand stressed the team still doesn't have many details on exactly what happened that led to Lucic's arrest.
Meanwhile. Boston head coach Jim Montgomery didn't even wait for the question to come up during media time. He started with a statement.
"First off, we're aware of the situation, and as an organization we take these things very seriously."
"We support the Lucic family, and we will continue to provide support and help for the Lucic family. And out of respect for their privacy, that's all I'm going to comment on the details right now."
Asked if he had spoken to Lucic, Montgomery said he had not. He admitted it's "not a normal day" for the Boston Bruins, but there's a game to get ready for.
No details on what happened have been released other than that Lucic was arrested and is taking a leave of absence from the team. This season marked Lucic's return to the Bruins after leaving in 2015.
