The longtime voice for the Boston Bruins broadcast on NESN has been noticeably absent the last couple games and the rumors have began about his broadcasting future.

Jack Edwards has been absent over the holiday weekend, replaced in the booth by play-by-play announcer Alex Faust who regularly calls NHL games for TNT.

Edwards took to his social media to set the record straight on the reason behind his break from the booth, letting fans know when his return date will be.

«Happy Holidays! Contrary to misinformation (imagine that!), I am fit & healthy,» Edwards posted.

«I will not be in the booth for 2 more games: the Ottawa/Philly roady in January,» he added. «I look forward to calling years of Bruins games. I am enjoying a holiday week family vacation. First time in 17 years.»

The 66 year old began his broadcasting career in 1991 working with ESPN as an anchor and reporter. Edwards started with the Bruins during the 2005-2006 season. He received a 2011 Stanley Cup Championship ring for his play-by-play work with the Bruins.

Rumors have swirled this year that Edwards has battled health issues as some of his game calls have appeared slow and laboured. It is however, positive news for Bruins fans that the veteran will be returning shortly.
