Boston Bruins bringing back familiar face on a professional tryout contract
After spending the parts of the last four seasons with the Anaheim Ducks and Pittsburgh Penguins, a reunion appears to be in the cards for the Boston Bruins and forward Danton Heinen.
On Tuesday, the Bruins announced that they've signed Danton Heinen to a professional tryout contract, joining them for training camp and preseason games in the coming weeks. Heinen becomes the second forward the Bruins have signed to a PTO, joining 11-year veteran Alex Chiasson.
The 28-year-old was selected in the fourth-round, 116th overall by the Boston Bruins in 2014 and joined them in 2016 after a pair of seasons at the University of Denver.
Heinen, a native of Langley, British Columbia spent parts of four seasons with the Bruins from 2016 to 2020, appearing in 220 games where he had 103 points (34 goals, 69 assists), 42 penalty minutes and was a plus-23. In 2019, Heinen skated in 24 games during the playoffs as the Bruins reached the Stanley Cup Final, ultimately losing to the St. Louis Blues.
The Bruins are looking to add some depth to their lineup, but with not much money to spend, they had to turn their attention to the PTO market. It'll be interesting to see how much of an opportunity Heinen gets during training camp and preseason games so he can prove himself and earn a contract for the 2023-24 season.
