Details continue to emerge on Milan Lucic's legal situation, could see his contract terminated
Yesterday afternoon details began to leak that Boston Bruins legend Milan Lucic was arrested Friday night. The arrest came as a shock to many as it had been reported that Lucic was nearing a return to the lineup. However, last week Jim Montgomery shared that Lucic had suffered a minor setback.
Fast forward to this weekend and it now appears that Lucic may not return to the Boston Bruins at all. Lucic accepted a leave of absence from the team Saturday afternoon. Saturday night details began to emerge that Lucic had police called to his home after he allegedly choked his wife.
Today the legal process became a little clearer for Lucic.
#NHLBruins forward Milan Lucic will be arraigned in court Monday. There are reports from WBZ with alleged details. We will wait to see when confirmed details present themselves. Lucic is under contract for just this season with a $1 million cap hit. The Bruins pay him $1 million plus a $500,000 bonus. The 35-year-old is currently on a leave of absence.
When Lucic is arraigned the full details of the allegations against him will be read. This won't be an opportunity for him to state his case, but will provide additional details to the general public.
As the details emerge it's likely that the Bruins could look to potentially terminate his deal. Depending on the NHL's stance this could clear $1,000,000 in cap space for the Bruins.
Only time will tell what's next for Lucic, but this seems like it could be a dark end to his career.
